Calvary Preschool
is a caring place.
It is a nonprofit and nonsectarian place, providing high-quality childcare
at affordable rates.
We offer:
*
preschool curriculum
* drop-in emergency care for any parent when there is space available
* free childcare and scholarships for especially needy families when
funds are available
The quality of the program attracts families from all socioeconomic and
cultural backgrounds. We accept vouchers from all the social service programs
in Santa Cruz.
Calvary
Childcare center was founded in 1980 by Cameron Smith-Jackson, Ph.D
as an action-research project connected with her graduate studies.
The program is operated in the education building at Calvary Episcopal
Church, 532 Center St., Santa Cruz, Ca. 95060, (831) 425-1332.
The church provides a building rent-free and also numerous in-kind services
and donations. A board of directors consisting of representatives of
the church, staff, and parents of the children oversees the running
of the center through monthly meetings.
Those
Who Come To Us
Over
the past 10 years we have continued to offer free emergency childcare
to families in crisis or need. Our center is the only one in the community
that offers this service. We take referrals from Child Protective Services
and other state-run organizations.
In addition on each major holiday, our center helps our needy families
with donations of food or toys. Church members have "adopted" our families
and have provided them with complete meals and gifts. We have food and
diapers on hand at all times for families in need.
The
church and the childcare center work hand in hand to help our community.
Through donations and sponsorships, we hope to continue this mission. |
